Much grace to you Andrew.

Thank you for responding to this article. I appreciate the dialogue. As Paul the apostle said, "Despise not prophesyings. Test all things; hold fast to that which is good." (1 Thessalonians 5:20-21). I hope this will be of help to you. Shalom.

The genealogy in Matthew is of Mary and the one in Luke is of Joseph (Mary's husband). They both came from the line of David. Joseph (Mary's husband) was from the line of Nathan, one of the sons of David while Mary was from the line of King Solomon, also a son of David.

In Matthew, that Joseph named “the husband of Mary” is not her husband but her father whose name is also Joseph. It should read “Joseph, the father of Mary” even as the original Aramaic translation recorded.

This is just one of the many anomalies in the Greek New Testament translation of the gospels.

This Joseph in the gospel of Matthew must be a direct father of Mary in the flesh for Jesus to be a descendant of David in the flesh. This is supported by Romans 1:3 which says, “Concerning His son Jesus Christ our Lord which was made of THE SEED OF DAVID ACCORDING TO THE FLESH.”

This will also confirm Matthew’s record in Matthew 1:17 “…from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are FOURTEEN GENERATIONS.” Joseph (the father) being the 12th, then Mary the 13th in line, followed by Jesus Christ (14th).

Moreover, Jesus is not the son of Joseph (Mary’s husband) in the flesh. Therefore, Joseph (Mary’s husband) cannot link Jesus with King David in the flesh.

Jesus is the son of God by the Holy Spirit through Mary (Luke 1:35) who conceived Jesus in the flesh. Mary has to be a direct descendant of David in the flesh, not through any form of adoption as many Theologians allege, for Jesus to be a true root of Jesse (Isaiah 11:10), a righteous branch out of David (Jeremiah 23:5; 33:15) as prophesied by the prophets.

Finally, Mary is the only link IN THE FLESH between Jesus and King David. Thus, Joseph in Matthew must be her father IN THE FLESH. There’s no way around it.

May this be a blessing to you and to all who read this. Glory be unto our God who so wonderfully brought His Son to bring salvation to all who believed and to all who will believe. Amen.
