John the Baptist had the same Spirit as the prophet Elijah had.

And he (John) will go before Him (Jesus) in the spirit and power of Elijah... (cf. Luke 1:17)

John had a similar moment of weakness as Elijah had when he was threatened by Jezebel (1 Kings 19:2-3):

2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.” 3 When he (Elijah) saw that she was serious, he arose and ran for his life to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. 4 But he went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree and asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough! Now, O Lord, take my life, for I am not better than my fathers.”

Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are (James 5:17), and so was John.
