Good analogy, Paul! That's what orthodox Christianity is, a jar like Judaism, e.g. Scriptures bound by man-made traditions. Christianity is based mainly on misunderstood/mistranslated Pauline epistles, making the apostle Paul the greatest of all the apostles and elevating him almost to the level of Christ. That became the lid. Peter warned us regarding misunderstanding Paul's letters:
"As in all his letters, he writes about these things, in which some things are hard to understand, which the unlearned and unstable distort, as they also do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction." (2 Peter 3:16)
However, there is a line that separates righteousness and unrighteousness that is defined by the God and Father of our Lord, Christ (if one believes in God). He will judge accordingly. That line has been muddled up by liberal theologians of the past and more so by the present-day rogue pastors. Because of this, many of the so-called believers today are as described by Jonathan Edwards in his book, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God."
“The God that holds you over the pit of hell, much as one holds a spider or some loathsome insect over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked; his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire ... you are ten thousand times so abominable in his eyes, as the most hateful and venomous serpent is in ours.”
As God warned Joshua about going beyond God's words (Joshua 1:7-8):
"Be strong and very courageous, in order to act carefully in accordance with all the law that My servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn aside from it to the right or the left, so that you may succeed wherever you go. This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth. Meditate on it day and night so that you may act carefully according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way successful, and you will be wise."
Christ as well warned His disciples (Matthew 7:13-14), “Enter at the narrow gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who are going through it because small is the gate and narrow is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it."
I must expound on this in my next post. But, he who has an ear, let him hear.
